Alain Clark has already tasted plenty of success – that is, he’s remained in the charts in his native Holland for 52 weeks – and right now he’s on the verge of it in the UK. Watching an interview with the singer on Virgin’s blog, it was pretty hard not to fall in love with his image (not to mention his cute accent).
The video shows clips of Alain jumping around and showing off his vocal talents onstage before the saucy and outspoken Eleanor Conway (who also notes that Alain is “sexy”) sits down with the singer for their interview. At one point she asks, “You know when you go to concerts, do you have placards – do people bring signs? Like marry me, that kind of stuff?” he laughs. “Yeah,” she answers, “like ‘We love you!’”
And his answer (“Yeah… that happens sometimes”) is totally unsurprising. He admits that he likes involving the crowd in his show. The video cuts to a clip of the singer interacting with the audience by including them in his song. He instructs the crowd to sing after playfully announcing that he wants to hear all 10,000 of their voices.
He talks about his production experience as a being a sort of launching pad for his career. Once he had produced several artists, he says, he wanted to make his own music and produce it himself. Having the previous production experience made his own road as an artist a bit easier because, he said, “you kind of know who you have to ask to get a certain result.”
He compared making music to cooking, a metaphor in which the ingredients were the words, chords, and songs. “It’s just a matter of putting them together,” he told Conway. “And when it tastes good, you know, when it feels good, that’s when it’s done.”
