Alain Clark has a couple of different philosophies on life. For the Motown-influenced, self-described funky pop soul singer, the two most important things in anyone’s life are love and having a good time – two themes that effectively pepper his lyrics and melodies.
Friends and family are a vital aspect of the love part of his philosophy, without whom, he reasons, no one could truly have a good time – therefore these two philosophies walk hand in hand. Of course Alain admits there is more besides these two things. In order for the world to function people must run about and attempt to accomplish some goals.
But it’s the moments of shared happiness with friend and family that are really the moments that people hang onto and these inspire the singer more than anything else.
That being said, Alain finds inspiration mostly among his own experiences and the emotions they induce. This is especially true, he says, of his upcoming release.
It’s important to Alain that his music comes from his heart – and he much prefers to focus on the emotions that he’s actually come into contact with. The soul singer admits that he could never be described as a tortured soul, which sets him apart from the majority of artists that share his genre. The fact that he’s never had any death defying emotional lows during his lifetime betrays itself in Alain’s sound – his songs depend on what he refers to as a “happy vibe.”
Though he hasn’t (yet) experienced heady international fame, Alain hopes to be able to hold onto his unique creative expression through any kind of success storm. The singer admits that it is hard to hold on to the emotion that originally gives birth to a song when he has to sing it over and over again on tour , night after night – much like the challenge any stage actor faces trying to convey the same emotions night after night in the same play. But Alain stays positive – as usual – and hopes to do well with his album and hang on to his artistic integrity at the same time.
