Berlin Album from The Ting Tings

Manchester duo the Ting Tings plan to record their second album in Berlin. They told Newsbeat recently that they are big fans of the city, and have made their own studio from a concerted jazz club.

Jules De Martino, drummer and vocalist for the group, said of the city: “We fell in love with Berlin the times we’ve played there… we go there in October when we finish the Pink tour.”

“We did the first album by throwing house parties,” added singer Katie White, who reports that they plan to do try out new tracks at impromptu parties in Berlin as well. “We’d try them out on our drunk friends and if they danced we’d go ‘Great, let’s carry on!’ We’re gonna do the same in Berlin – that’s why we’ve got the jazz club – so we can just stick a big plastic bag over the studio so it doesn’t get beer on and experiment on some crazy Berliners.”

According to the article, the two haven’t actually written any new songs just yet, but they’ve had plenty of ideas that they can’t wait to put into motion.
Jules said: “[We’ve got] all these hooks and licks we’ve been rehearsing in soundchecks and emailing and texting each other lyrics…. We just kind of save them up and mash them all together and rock out.”

We Started Nothing, The Ting Tings’ debut album, went straight to No.1 last year, and infamously gave the world the single “That’s Not My Name.”
