JLS keep the number one single

The X Factor runners-up are once again proving that they didn’t need to win the reality television contest to still come out on top. Their debut single, “Beat Again,” remains at the top of the singles chart this week, according to NME and the Official Charts Company.

This is the second week that the single has been on the market, as well as its second week at No. 1.  JLS has managed to hold off the single “Supernova” from Mr. Hudson and featuring the voice of label boss Kanye West with their own catchy single.

This week made Michael Jackson the longest serving artist at the top of the album chart so far this year.  The King of Pop’s Number Ones spent a week at No. 1 and his album collective The Essential stayed in the same position for four weeks, giving Jackson a total of five weeks at the top of the charts, a record for the year.  Just behind him is Lady Gaga, whose album The Fame spent four weeks on top of the album chart.

Jackson currently has ten albums in the Top 50, and five of those are featured in the chart’s Top 20, including The Collection (new to the Top 20 this week), and a five-album box set that includes Thriller, Off the Wall, Bad, Dangerous and Invincible. Nine of Jackson’s albums are in the Top 40.
He also maintains a strong presence in the singles chart, where he has 23 songs in the Top 200, and one in the Top 20, “Man in the Mirror.”
Mercury Prize-nominated Florence and the Machine holds the No. 2 position on the album chart with Lungs for the third straight week.
