Born in New York but currently residing in London, Julian Velard is a male pop singer who looks set for success in 2009. Julian Velard has drawn comparisons with host of familiar names in the pop-industry, including, male pop singers such as, Elton John, Jamie Cullum and Ben Folds Five.
Unlike many of peers, Julian Velard has the unique ability of playing multiple instruments. He can play a variety of instruments. Julian was signed to EMI after they spotted him on MySpace.
Julian has played gigs in a number of unusual locations, including, hotel foyers and often does gigs barefoot. Velard cites that his influences range from Tom Waits, Stevie Wonder, Supertramp and Elvis Costello, although he hates the fake rebellion of most rock bands.Julian started writing songs at high school although he doesn’t come from a particularly musical family, he said, "My mum was a singing cocktail waitress for a while but my parents aren't really musical at all.
"My dad loves Celine Dion and my mum loves American Idol. But music was my thing. It was what I had to do,” he added.
Female singers have enjoyed great success over the last few years, but with people like Julian leading the way – it looks like 2009 will be a great year for male pop singers.
An interesting fact about Julian is that his father developed the first ever ATM machine and his mother won the US quiz, Jeopardy on four different occasions.
