Pop princess Lady Gaga was forced to pull out of a show at Purdue University, Indiana, last Thursday after collapsing in her dressing room only minutes before she was due to take the stage.
The Poker Face star endured a punishing schedule during 2009, spending most of the year taking here Monsters Ball tour around the world, while also fitting in several TV appearances, including the UK's Royal Variety Show where she met the Queen.Late on Thursday night she posted a message to her fans on Twitter offering an apology and an explanation for the show's cancellation.
“I've been crying for hours,” she said. “I feel like I let my fans down 2nite. An hour before the show, I was feeling dizzy and having trouble breathing.
“Paramedics came to take care of me, and told me my heart-rate was irregular-- a result of exhaustion and dehydration.
“I can't apologize enough for how sorry I am. I could hear my fans cheering from my dressing room, I begged everyone to let me go on stage.
“My stage has complicated mechanical elements,everyone was concerned I'd be in danger during the 2hr show, since I had passed out earlier.
“I am so devastated. I have performed with the flu, a cold, strep throat: I would never cancel a show just based on discomfort.
“I hope you can forgive me. I love my little monsters more than anything, you are everything to me.”
However, despite the advice of medical experts who had advised her to take off a few days to recuperate, the New York-born 23 year old decided that a live performance on The Oprah Winfrey Show the following day was too big an opportunity to miss. Despite reports which claimed that she was still tired and somewhat dehydrated, the pop diva took to the stage in her usual inimitable style, wearing dark glasses and swinging a mace and chain and preformed a medley of songs from her album, The Fame Monster.
The cancelled show has been rescheduled for 26th January.{jcomments on}
