Madonna’s new daughter Mercy settles in London

Madonna was officially awarded custody of her new daughter, four-year-old Mercy James, just two weeks ago, and experts recommended that the singer let the girl adjust in London before flying her out to her home in New York.

The Sun reports that Madonna will be keeping things quiet – her sons, eight-year-old Rocco and three-year-old adopted David, were sent to stay with father Guy Ritchie so that Mercy be able to adjust to her new life.  Mercy reportedly slept during most of the 6,000 mile flight via private jet from Malawian capital Lilongwe to Heathrow on Friday.  When the child was reunited with Madonna, the singer burst into tears upon hearing Mercy call her “Mummy.”

Before Mercy’s new brothers left to stay with dad, they and twelve-year-old sister Lourdes threw the new addition to their family a tea party. Afterward Madonna, known to friends as Em, took Mercy to a special blessing at a Kabbalah centre.

A family friend told the Sun: “Em has been waiting for this moment for years, but realizes that she shouldn’t over-stimulate Mercy by immediately smothering her with attention and things to do. After all, she has been in this before when she brought David home from Malawi so she understands how confusing it must be. The next few days are all about cocooning Mercy from the world and getting her used to being around her new family. Em had hoped to have all the children together for the next few days. But David couldn’t contain his excitement and was tearing round the house like a runaway horse. He kept shouting, ‘I want to see my sister,’ and endlessly hugging and tugging at her.”

Guy Ritchie has been to meet Mercy, and Madonna plans to spend the next few quiet evenings at home, singing and reading to her daughter.
