Man who punched Leona Lewis not fit for court

NME reports that the man accused of punching X Factor winner Leona Lewis in a bookstore on October 14 has been found to be unfit to attend court. A judge ruled that 29-year-old Peter Kowalczyk should be confined to a hospital.

The 2007 reality television contest winner was assaulted by Kowalczyk as she was signing copies of her book at a Waterstone’s store in London. After management at the Piccadilly location notified police, the man was subsequently sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

On October 26 it was ruled in the City of Westminster Magistrates that Kowalczyk was unfit to attend court. The BBC reports that although he is free on bail, the female singers assailant is confined to a hospital.

There are pending psychiatric tests for Kowalczyk undergo, and the results of these test will further establish how this case will be dealt with; the case will reconvene on November 23.

According to MTV UK, reports from last week claimed that the assailant had previously been rejected from X Factor auditions.
In other Leona Lewis news, the singer will soon release a new single – a cover of the Oasis tune “Stop Crying Your Heart Out.”
