George Michael is preparing to release a brand new single for the holiday season, the BBC reports. The song will mark Michael’s first release since his 1984 hit with Wham!, “Last Christmas.”
The track in question, “December Song,” was available for a short time on Michael’s website last year, and will go on sale this December 13, in hopes of a possible Christmas No. 1. Also in the running to peak on the seasonal chart is Robbie Williams.
A spokesman informed the BBC that the Michael single has been remastered for release. The news network also reports that the 46-year-old will sing the song on an episode of this season’s X Factor.
Appearances on X Factor generally help artists promote their music, but for the past five years the Christmas singles chart has been dominated by winners of the show.
Michael announced last year that he had no plans to tour anytime soon, and instead played three “final” gigs in October, one in Copenhagan and two in London. The singer has been behind the sale of more than 100 million records around the globe and a number of hits such as “Jesus to a Child” and “Fast Love.”
