Rihanna & Chris Brown - The new Bobby & Whitney!?

Rihanna & Chris Brown bust upProbably not is not the easy and quick answer to that question after seeing reports coming out of the states! Im sure by now everyone has seen, or at least heard the rumours gong around, that Chris Brown, the young RnB upcoming artist, was arrested at the weekend after he, allegedly, beat up his girlfriend, the equally young, upcoming and famous, Rihanna! Anyone see some shades of Bobby Brown & Whitney?

Despite both acts being lined up to play at the Grammy's on Sunday evening, Chris Brown was arrested in the earluy hours of Sunday morning after an equally celeb filled pre-Grammy party! Rihanna's injuries were so serious that she had to go to hospital, suffering from a split lip, bite marks on her hands and arms, concussion, and head trauma. Brown was charged with making a "criminal threat" and was bailed out of jail for a measly $50,000. Probably asked some of his mates to grab some of his change in his pants pocket!

According to some sources in the stares it was claimed that the singer told police that Brown had pulled over his silver Lambourghini in LA's Hancock Park area, at which point she had grabbed the keys from the ignition and threw them out of the window. This act sent Brown into a rage and he allegedly grabbed Rihanna by the neck and shouted "I'm going to kill you". She says that she lost consciousness during the subsequent beating and that when she awoke, Brown had fled the scene.

Rihanna has now cancelled those planned performances in Malaysia and Jakarta next week, with the promoter for the latter citing "an assault case involving Rihanna's boyfriend" as the reason for the cancellation in a statement. And for Brown, well, he has had his Wrigleys advert pulled in the states, as well as the recently new to air "Got Milk" campaign. Whether or not Brown will be on pulled from radio, or even dropped by Jive Records, his label in the states, we'll have to wait and see.

Like other artists before him whose private legal matters have impacted their public careers — such as Michael Jackson and R. Kelly — it appears that, for now, many program managers are taking a wait-and-see approach with one of the most popular radio artists of the past year, both in US and globally.

From here, we wish Rihanna a good recovery, and everyone keep checking on Songpeople for what will happen next!
