The Telegraph is taking the stance that Whitney Houston’s so-called comeback was a bit below par after the singer appeared on X Factor to sing her latest single “Million Dollar Bill” “over some pre-recorded vocals.” Houston’s first appearance on UK television in 12 years was also punctuated by a wardrobe malfunction when one of the straps in back of her flowing silver gown broke open.
The 46-year-old female singer has had a long and very public battle with drug addiction, and this performance raised questions about hercurrent physical condition. The diva appeared drowsy as she was being interviewed by show host Dermot O’Leary, and she seemed to have difficulty speaking plainly as well.
Fans have taken to the X Factor website to express their outrage and dismay, with one writing: “Not sure what was going on with Whitney what a huge let down.”
Another posted: “What a huge waste of her talent. People should watch and learn what harm one can do to oneself. I hope for Whitney and all her fans she gets a grip and rejoins the planet.”
Also singing on Sunday night was Cheryl Cole, who performed her solo debut “Fight for this Love.” (“This is going to really pain me to have to say this,” Simon Cowell said of her performance, “but that was incredible.”)
As far as actual contestants on the show are concerned, Rikki Loney was eliminated after going head to head with Rachel Adedeji and losing. Though the studio audience made their disapproval of Irish duo John and Edward Grimes known, the two went through to the next round.
