First No. 1 single of the new decade from Lady Gaga

The first No. 1 single of 2010 is Lady’s Gaga’s latest, “Bad Romance.” NME reports that January 3 saw the track take the peak position on the chart for the second time of late, after having first gotten to the same spot on December 13.

Lady Gaga put out the best-selling single of 2009 with “Poker Face,” according to the Official Charts Company. The singer’s track “Just Dance” was the third best-selling single of the year, behind “I Gotta Feeling” from the Black Eyed Peas.

The year’s top album came from the Britain’s Got talent runner-up, Susan Boyle, whose I Dreamed a Dream broke records in 2009, selling over 1.5 million copies in some six weeks. Lady Gaga had the second best-selling album of the year with The Fame.

This week’s singles chart also saw Joe McElderry – last week’s reining champ – reduced to No. 2 with his single “The Climb.”
The current album charts feature Paolo Nutini’s Sunny Side Up in the No. 1 slot, up 14 places from last week. Both Florence and the Machine’s Lungs and Muse’s The Resistance are back in the Top 10 this week, in slots six and eight, respectively.
