Andy Williams announces Glastonbury 2010 performance

US singer Andy Williams will be 82 years old when he takes the stage at next year’s Glastonbury festival; the BBC reports that Williams announced his upcoming performance during the Cheltenham Literature Festival when giving a speech about his recent autobiography.

The revelation was met with cheers from the gathered audience. Williams said he’d been invited by Michael Eavis, the festival’s organizer, to perform at what will be Glastonbury’s 40th anniversary.

Glastonbury spokespeople are keeping mum on the official lineup until next year, refusing to confirm William’s performance. However, big things are expected of next year’s Glasto – it’s been rumored that they hope to book the Rolling Stones.

BBC news writes that Eavis previously reported that “expectations are really high” for next year’s billing, and that “we’re trying to get the best headliners in the world.” That lineup won’t be officially revealed, however, until two months prior to the event, scheduled to take place in June. Next year’s festival sold out earlier this month in less than 24 hours.

Andy Williams is well known for his songs “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “music To Watch Girls By.” The singer has been touring the UK of late in order to promote Moon River And Me, his autobiography.
