Bruce Springsteen Breaks Time Limit, Costs Organizers £3,000

The Times Online reports that festival organizer Michael Eavis had to cough up £3,000 when Bruce Springsteen’s performance at Glastonbury music festival surpassed the 12.30am curfew by nine minutes.

But Eavis isn’t complaining, telling the Times: “I gave him ten minutes and he took nine. I’ll pay the £3,000 fine. Paul McCartney – 2004 headliner – paid me back. I’m going to pay the Bruce Springsteen one myself. It’s not a lot, because it was fantastic. The last nine minutes were spectacular.”
According to a festival spokesman, time limits are set because there are many people who live in the area.

The Boss played an incredibly long set – 160 minutes – and was scheduled to shut down the Pyramid Stage at the festival on Saturday.  At the end of the show, Eavis gave him an extra ten minutes, and Springsteen returned to the stage asking and answering his own question: “If it ain’t curfew time, what time is it? It’s Boss time.”
During the last moments of Springsteen’s extended set, he belted “Badlands” at the crowd and hurled himself about the stage, living up to his reputation as a high-energy, extremely infectious performer. He also threw himself into renditions of “Glory Days” and “Dancing in the Dark” before he and the E Street Band finally tore themselves away from the stage.
