Faith No More, the notorious US alternative metal band, are reforming after famously calling it a day in April 1998, and will headlin this years Download Festival at Donnington Park in the summer. Although it has not yet been confirmed that they will be playing any new music at the live festivals, it has been rumoured that new material will emerge in 2010 with a new album from all the original band members.
Being a top favourite band of the worldwide established artists, Metallica, who are also on the Monsters of Rock tour this Summer, and Gun 'N' Roses. The band were formed in Seattle, Washington, and were one of the most influential American bands in the mid 1990s, combining elements of heavy metal, funk, punk rock, progressive rock, hip hop, jazz, hardcore punk and more, were said to be a big influence on the nu-metal rap/rock crossover of the late 1990s and early 2000s, which spawned large US acts such as Korn, Limp Bizkit and Korn. Even the vocal style of Mike Patton, the infamous lead singer, spawned numerous copycat singers even to this day, although very few could every reach the heights of his incredible range, which could swap between terror inflicting metal roars to soaring and beautiful operatic ranges.
Although the band never had huge UK commercial pop music highlights, in 1992 their third album 'Angel Dust' went to number 2 in the album charts, and their follow up album 'King For a Day...Fool For A Lifetime' went in three years later at number 5. Yet a lot of their material has been used in the film, computer games, such as Grand Theft Auto, and adverts, like the worldwide promo advert for Levis, in which their cover version of the classic Commodores song 'Easy' was used.
A few weeks ago a statement confirmed that they are “still young and strong enough to deliver a kickass set, with enthusiasm to not only revisit our past but possibly add something to the present. And so with this we've decided to hold our collective breaths and jump off this cliff.... BACK, GOD FORBID, INTO THE MONKEY CAGE!!!”. You can buy festival tickets for Download and be warned that Faith No More’s appearance at Download 2009 will be their ONLY UK date this year.
