After Liam Gallagher came down with viral laryngitis, Oasis had no choice but to cancel their upcoming gig at this year’s V festival.
Oasis did make it to a scheduled performance at the leg of the festival in Staffordshire, but afterward were forced to pull out of their headlining slot for last night’s V festival gig in Essex. Snow Patrol signed on to fill in for the band.
According to the Guardian, the crowd was not happy to hear that Oasis had cancelled but they were eventually won over by Snow Patrol’s acoustic covers of “Champagne Supernova” and “Wonderwall.”
An Oasis spokesperson reported: “After a year of being on the road, this is the first performance to be lost to a band member’s illness, so naturally we are all completely gutted. Liam is resting up and should be fine to resume the tour next Friday in Paris.”
Things worked out fine for Snow Patrol, however, as Gary Lightbody labeled the V fest audience as “one of the best crowds we’ve ever played to.”
The gathered masses at V festival were also awarded a surprise performance from Amy Winehouse with the Specials and pleasantly warm weather. Amy’s performance singing backup vocals on the track “Ghost Town” marked her first live gig in the UK in almost a year.
Also on the festival billing this year were the Killers, Dizzee Rascal and Lady Gaga.
