The Mirror broke the story yesterday that Simon Cowell plans to quit X Factor in order to launch a billion-pound television and entertainment empire. Apparently Cowell has told friends that the upcoming season of the show will be his last. Cowell’s presence on the show as a judge will come to an end after five years when he joins Topshop executive Sir Phillip Green to orchestrate and sell TV formats worldwide, with ITV in their sights as a potential first client.
Amazon accidentally sells entire albums for 29p
Buyers flooded Amazon’s website to take advantage of a pricing blunder on Thursday, when entire albums were made available for only 29p. The Telegraph reports that at least 30 albums – by artists such as Kings of Leon, Lily Allen, Metallica, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, James Morrison and Norah Jones went on sale for less than the cost of a single track.
Police arrest 10 for online music fraud
A gang of ten has been arrested for their roles in an international scheme to defraud iTunes and Amazon. The men and women involved in the crime circle had been buying their own music through these sites with stolen credit cards, according to the Metropolitan police. The case was brought to a culmination through the work of the Met as well as members of the FBI.
Sky music service to be called Sky Songs
Apple will have a bit of competition when Sky finally launches its music download service. Sky, who partnered with Universal Music Group in July 2008 with this project in mind, has officially branded the service Sky Songs. Though the service was scheduled to be launched at the end of last year, it still has not materialized.

The Wall Street Journal reports that music-rights holders in Europe are on the verge of an agreement that would create a pan-European music license, enabling music to be bought online throughout the European Union.

Teen Invents YouTube Music Player
A teenager has invented the world’s first YouTube music player, that mines Youtube’s extensive back catalogue of music tracks.
David Nelson, a 15-year-old programmer from Iowa invented the player with the help of his dad, Mark. The two spent a year developing Muziic Player. Muziic Player allows users to organise, search, stream and create playlists from YouTube's catalogue of music clips.
Last FM Will Charge For Streaming
music streaming site, Last.fm will charge visitors outside of the UK, Germany and the US to listen to music.Those visitors who are supposed to pay a subscription will be allowed to listen to 30 songs for free. Last.fm's Matthew Ogle said, "Sure, this was a business decision"
