Melanie Chisholm, formerly of the Spice Girls, will be making her West End debut when she stars in a production of Blood Brothers. According to the BBC, the former pop singer will be cast as Mrs. Johnstone in the musical.
Mel C will replace former X Factor contestant Niki Evans in the musical about twins that are separated at birth, only to cross paths later in life.
The 35-year-old will make her first appearance as Mrs. Johnstone when she performs at the Phoenix Theater on October 26, and will be the second of the former Spice Girls to grace a musical theatre stage (Mel B was featured in a Broadway production of Rent as the heroin-addicted Mimi). It has been noted that Chisholm follows in the footsteps of former Mrs. Johnstones such as Barbara Dickson, Kiki Dee, Petula Clark, and Carole King.
The Guardian reports excitement for the Mel C casting on the part of Blood Brothers fans, quoting one such fan as saying: “I’ve got tickets for the end of this month, and now I want to change all my plans to see Sporty!”
The former Sporty Spice gave birth to her and partner Thomas Starr’s first child, a daughter Scarlett, in February.
