Technology reunites John Lennon and George Harrison with the living

In a new commercial advertising the upcoming Beatles version of Rock Band, all four Abbey Road-era Beatles are digitally incorporated into modern times in an uplifting effort to sell video games.

The television advertisement features Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr striding across the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing, in a live action recreation of the iconic album cover. The bandmates appear thrilled to receive the attentions of a gaggle of dancing fans, some of which are playing with the instruments used for the Rock Band game.

“Come Together” features as the ad’s backing track, and the video was posted on YouTube just before its first airing on US television in order to give the game a bit of a viral marketing boost.

The actual video game allows players to play along to 45 of the Fab Four’s songs on the accompanying plastic instruments. Hardcore fans of the Beatles will have the option of purchasing the video game controllers made to look like replicas of the band’s actual instruments.

The Beatles: Rock Band stars digital imitations of the band members. The game has been endorsed by the likes of Yoko Ono and George Harrison’s widow, Olivia Harrison, along with Starr and McCartney. The Beatles were part of the original British Invasion and now they are set to take the gaming world by storm.

This edition of the game is expected to be one of the best-selling releases of the year when it hits shelves on September 9, as it should appeal to a wide ranging demographic.
