UK Music survey finds drop in illegal downloads

According to a recent survey, there has been a slight decrease in illegal music downloads. The number of young people acquiring music illegally has dropped by 2 per cent, according to a study for UK Music carried out by the University of Hertfordshire.

One day after the online-only release of new Radiohead single “Harry Patch (In Memory of),” Thom Yorke issued commentary on the recent changes in musical consumption.
The Radiohead frontman and sometime-solo act told The Believer magazine that he particularly hates CDs – a sentiment that has seen fruition in the release of this recent single as well as the band’s previous album release, In Rainbows. According to Yorke, the CD sales are feeding the zombie that the music industry has become.

Covering Kate Bush tracks is a dangerous game for any artist.  So high is her critical acclaim and so seemingly universal her appeal, that it is almost considered sacrilege just to consider it. Plenty have tried and failed, but here’s a rundown (in no particular order) of the top 10 successful attempts…

1.) MPHO – Running Up That Hill

A soulful take on the classic track from up and coming Brixton artist MPHO – it’s nice when the voice is left to do the work rather than overdo the instrumentation in an attempt to make the track ‘different’. Great stuff.


 

Big Green Gathering tickets valid for Big Chill

Spotify, the Swedish music streaming service, has just announced that it will launch its first iPhone application.  The service, which has so far only been available to computer users, will utilize a peer-to-peer network for online music streaming through the phone.
