79% of Shoppers Influenced by Music

New research published by Entertainment Media Research (EMR) finds that 79% of shoppers stay longer in a store if the right music is played. 1 in 2 shoppers have walked out of a store because the music has annoyed them.

The research indicates that music plays a crucial role in consumer shopping decisions as well as overall perception of a business.

The Digital Music Survey is based on a sample of 1,500 people nationwide. The Annual survey is a broad investigation into all aspects of digital music in the UK.

Shaun Austin, Senior Research Manager at EMR: "The research shows how important it is to play the right music in public places, and the impact it has on businesses.

Companies should take a close look at their music policy to ensure they are not alienating customers, or to see if they can increase sales by changing the music to something more appropriate for their business."
