Yesterday we brought you ten of the wealthiest British musicians under the age of 30. But they're small fry by comparison to the big hitters who've been around for a few decades longer. Here are ten of the country's richest musicians as published in the Sunday Times Rich list...

10 Andrew Lloyd Webber

With £700m in the bank the musical theatre maestro needn't worry about going without. His new musical, Love Never Dies, which is the sequel to his mega hit Phantom of the Opera, opened in London last month and shortly heads to Broadway. Phantom has been seen by over 80 million people.

9 Paul McCartney

The former Beatle has been a busy boy and continues to tour and release albums well into his 60s. With the remastered release of The Beatles back catalogue last year, along with and launch of The Beatles Rock Band video game, his current bank balance of £475m looks set to keep rising.

8 Mick Jagger

They might be getting on a bit, but the last Stones tour, 2007's A Bigger Bang, grossed £390m in tickets alone. Add in years of royalties and he's thought to have about £190m. His cohort Keef is thought to have £175, but then he drinks more...

7 Elton John

At 63 he's another veteran but his career shows no sins of declining. He is currently listed as the seventh most played artist of the last decade. He's currently said to be worth £185m but he is also renowned for donating a lot of his wedge to charity.

6 Sting

The 58 year old reformed The Police in 2008 and upon returning from the American tour he described the experience as akin to “going back to a dysfunctional marriage.” The $28m each member got probably made it that bit easier to swallow, mind. He's worth around £180m.

5 Simon Cowell

Love him or loathe him, this man has the Midas touch. A decade ago he was a left field A&R man at a major record label. He is now said to be worth in the region of £165m following his industry-changing activities, such as the X Factor, where he not only makes money off the TV shows but also from the stars they produce – and on both sides of the pond.

4 Rod Stewart

Another one who you might think has had his day. But his songs are still heavily played on radio all round the world and audiences still queue up to see him. Currently estimated to be worth £105m.

3 Ozzy & Sharon Osbourne

Mr & Mrs Prince of Darkness have cashed in on what was basically a total car crash of a situation given Ozzy's former reputation for destruction. We all got to know Osbourne domesticity thanks to their TV show and the pair haven't looked back since. £95m and counting...

2 Robbie Williams

An £80m deal with EMI has helped propel Robbie, 36, into this list of oldies. But with 95 million album sales and 40 million single sales to his name you can see why they gave it to him. All in he's got around £85m

1 Gary Barlow

Thanks to the unprecedented success of Take That's recent comeback, their chief songwriter is a new addition to the Sunday Times Rich List with an estimated £35m to his name. And given that they're probably even more popular this time around, they don't look like stopping for a while either!
