With a World Cup on the horizon in the coming weeks, expect a glut of really bad football songs to start to contaminate your airwaves. But according to PRS, the people who collect royalties for songwriters, footy tunes can be great performers on the airplay charts. Here is their list of the ten biggest grossing football-related songs.
10. Nessun Dorma - Luciano Pavarotti

Became a huge smash during Italia 90 and was the theme tune to Gazza's tears
9. Hot Stuff - Arsenal FC

In 1998 the Arsenal team covered the Donna Summer disco smash in the build-up to their FA Cup Final appearance. Somehow the record was a success...
8. Hey Baby (Unofficial World Cup Mix) - DJ Otzi

1961 classic that became the unofficial theme to the 2002 World Cup in Korea & Japan and hit the number one spot in a number of countries.
7. Three Lions - Lightning Seeds (featuring Baddiel and Skinner)

Britpop and Brit comedy came together to record this still-played classic ahead of England's hosting of Euro 96.
6. Sign Up For The Champions - Reds United

When you're Man United and you win a lot of stuff, you end up making a lot of records. This is one of them and it's about as poor as all the rest. Stick to the footy lads...
5. Carnival de Paris -Dario G
Recorded in the run-up to the 1998 World Cup in France. Has since been adopted by a number of clubs around the world and played before games.
4. Vindaloo - Fat Les

Keith Allen, Damien Hirst and Alex James from Blur managed to come up with this terrace anthem ahead of the 1998 World Cup. A young Lily Allen also sang backing vocals.
3. Eat My Goal - Collapsed Lung

The Britpop band's 1996 song was used in a Coke ad during Euro 96 and re-released for the World Cup two years later. Has also been used in football video games.
2. World In Motion - New Order

Undoubtedly the only respectable football song ever penned. Made John Barned a rap superstar in the process.
1. Purple Heather - Rod Stewart with the Scotland 1996 Squad

Didn't really help them, this one. They went out of Euro 96 after two games. Nice one Rod!
