It's hard to believe but our musical heroes weren't born famous. As with most people who tend to rise to the very top, most had very humble beginings. Here are ten stars along with the jobs they did before stardom came knocking...
Johnny Cash: Morse Code breaker

The Man in Black was stationed in Germany as part of the US Air Force and spent his days intercepting Russian Morse Code transmissions.
Debbie Harry: Playboy Bunny

Prior to forming Blondie, Harry pulled on the rabbit ears and fluffy tail to work as a Bunny Girl at New York's Playboy Club in the early 70s.
Ozzy Osbourne: Abattoir worker

The worst of his teenage jobs which also included shifts as a trainee plumber and work on a car assembly line. "If you'd seen what I saw there, you would never eat meat again," said the man who once bit off the head of a live bat.
Eminem: Short-order chef
Now a multi-millionaire but a young Marshall Mathers used to earn $5.50 an hour as a short order chef at Gilbert's Lodge restaurant in Detroit. "He would be in the kitchen rapping all the orders and sometimes I'd have to ask him to tone it down,” said the owner.
Brandon Flowers: Bellboy

The Killers frontman used to lug guests' bags around as a bellhop at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino in his hometown of Las Vegas.
Jack White: Upholsterer

Completed a three-year furniture-industry apprenticeship and then opened his own shop in Detroit. Not only does this widely acclaimed musician front two globally successful bands but he could probably re-cover your three-piece suite.
Madonna: Dunkin' Donuts Server

When the struggling dancer arrived in NYC with just a few dollars in her pocket she needed a job and couldn't be picky, hence a stint at Dunkin' Donuts in Times Square. Later sacked for squirting jam on the customers.
Gwen Stefani – Floor Scrubber

A style icon and pop superstar now but her start was much more humble. Her first job was mopping floors at a branch of the American fast food chain Dairy Queen near her home in Fullerton, California.
Pink – McDonalds

Like Macy Gray and Shania Twain before her, Pink got her own party started under the golden arches. "I'd turn up tripping on acid,” she once revealed.
Kanye West – The Gap

The hip-hop megastar once was the king of the chinos as referenced in his track Spaceship. Clearly he felt a little short-changed: "Let's go back, back to the Gap / Look at my check, wasn't no scratch."
