The Days delve into their album

When Gary Flockhart of the Scotsman interviewed The Days, he certainly seemed impressed by the young band.  After many offers to sign to a major label, he explained, The Days finally decided to go with Atlantic Records.

And of course, their unique indie pop sound “has them marked out for success.” It was noted, of course, that The Days have quite the touring background – they’ve supported Paulo Nutini, Supergrass, and Scouting for Girls.

Luke, who is not only the band’s frontman but also its piano player, took a few minutes to give an interview describing the band’s love of the road, and giving a bit of information on their music as well.  Being the opening act for so many bands really gave the guys the confidence of experience, and Luke humbly admitted the fact.

When asked what fans should expect from The Days’ upcoming album, Luke said, “The album has a mix of different things. It’s all kind of summery and reflects what we’re into.  We want to get a bit of escapism in our music, so people can forget what they’ve been doing and get engrossed in it. It’s all about catchy tunes. We try to keep each chorus big and poppy.”

There isn’t an overall theme present in the album, but Luke pointed at a sort of chronological timeline present in the work – at least in terms of the band’s evolvement. According to Luke, there are “songs on there from when we were just a piano, bass and drum band.”
Though it may seem like it would be stressful to be in a studio working with your brother, the Simpkins brothers “tell each other like it is,” and though at times, they admit, it can be stressful, they manage alright.  The band’s music is equally important to both brothers, and it’s not something they’d let come between them.
